My Story

About Private Pilates Teacher

Vanessa discovered her interest for massage in France in 1998 while studying for her degree in languages.  A simple head/neck massage cleared her flu-like symptoms.  After completing her degree in 1999, she began to explore the concept of Complementary Medicine, trying out therapies and adopting a chemical-free way of treating ailments.

Sport has also been crucial to understanding body mechanics.
Having played tennis since the age of seven, Vanessa’s posture was far from perfect in her late 20s. Pilates, yoga and giving sports massages have taught Vanessa the importance of posture, flexibility and core strength.

Nowadays Vanessa’s sporting interests lie with adventure activities such as climbing and hiking in the Himalayas, the Chilterns and along the windy Cornish coast.

Professional Qualifications

Complete Worx Massage was established in 2007 after Vanessa qualified in Sports and Remedial Massage from the LSSM.  Over the next five years, she trained in Lastone Original Body (hot and cold stone massage), Deep Stone (sports massage with temperature), pregnancy and post natal massage with Well Mother.  By 2013 after a back injury, recognising how key her pilates teacher was to her rehabilitation, she became a Clinical Pilates Instructor.  Complete Worx Pilates was born in 2014. Further APPI CPD courses: Healthy Hips, Pilates for Osteoporosis, Shoulder Rehabilitation, Ante/Post Natal Pilates, and Pilates for Menopause have created her unique style of pilates which is mindful, educational, safe and effective at creating a strong, supple and pain-free body. By 2020 she needed a better understanding of exercise in the context of a cancer diagnosis to support one of her students better. She qualified in July 2020 as a Cancer Rehab Exercise Specialist. An NHS Clinical trial called SafeFit (Macmillan) was set up in 2020 to support cancer patients using Can Rehab instructors to offer nutritional, emotional and exercise support over zoom. Being involved has been an honour.

Teaching has been a surprisingly rewarding aspect of her business.  In 2011 she spent three weeks teaching four blind students sports massage at Seeing Hands Nepal in Pokhara as a volunteer.  They taught her so much more.

Vanessa is always striving to offer the best possible sessions and advice to clients and continues to be inspired by the human body, its complexity and ability to heal given the right encouragement.

Vanessa is so attentive to all of us and has given me the confidence to gradually build up my strength and techniques at my own pace without causing any damage to my back.  It is a thoroughly enjoyable hour which I look forward to every week.
